Home Obedience I

Description: Home Obedience I is a 6-week class for handlers and their dogs to learn how to live happily together and to explore the many areas of dog ownership. Skills, such as sit, down, come, stay/wait and walking on a loose leash, are interspersed with tricks, games and puppy agility. You will quickly realize the more you interact with your dog, the more he/she will want to obey you. We offer plenty of on-leash socialization with other people and dogs and use positive rewards like praise, food and toys. Grooming, teeth brushing, health tips, healthy food and treat ideas are also part of the curriculum. Attention will be given to working with each team on their individual needs and to answering their specific questions. Home Obedience II

Description: Home Obedience II is a 6-week class which focuses on perfecting what you and your dog learned in Home Obedience I: sit/stay, come, drop it, leave it and heeling. Your dog will learn to obey in different circumstances and with distractions. These can be life-saving skills that are important to teach every dog. This class gives you the opportunity to polish up your skills and continue to build a special bond with your dog. Puppy Socialization/Basic Obedience

Description: Puppy Socialization/Basic Obedience is a 6-week class for handlers and their dogs to learn how to live happily together and to explore the many areas of dog ownership. Emphasis will be placed on socializing puppies with other people and dogs and introducing them to basic obedience skills such as sit, down, come, stay/wait and walking on a loose leash. You will quickly realize the more you interact with your dog, the more he/she will want to obey you. Grooming, teeth brushing, health tips, healthy food and treat ideas are also part of the curriculum. Attention will be given to working with each team on their individual needs and to answering their specific questions. AKC Beginning Novice/Novice Class

Description:The class will go over the AKC Rules and practice the aspects of beginning novice and novice trials, and put all together for practice trial.

This is a six week class.

Note: During the time of concern about COVID19, you must sign the Assumption of the Risk and Waiver of Liability (attached to Registration Form). You will also be asked to have only one handler present, and you will be required to wear a mask at all times while in the building.

Also during this period, class size may be limited and the time of the class may be shortened from the normal one hour to 40 minutes.

Prerequisites: Home obedience and Beyond Home Obedience or equivalent.

Cost: $85.00 Inactive members/non-members, $63.75 Active members


Competition Open Obedience

Description: Class will cover the skills needed in Open Obedience. This is a six week class.

Prerequisites: Dog and handler must understand BASIC HEELING. Need to be able to do the SIT and DOWN on command. Need a reliable RECALL.

Cost: $85.00 non-members, $63.75 members


Heeling

Description:This will be a competition heeling class for dogs with little experience heeling or for handlers who want to work on a better heeling performance with their dog. Since it is unrealistic to heel a dog for an hour, other skills and/or exercises will be included.

This is a four week class.

Prerequisites: Basic obedience skills: sit, stay, down, recall, walking on leash, okay with working around other people and dogs.

Cost: $56.00 Inactive members/non-members, $42.00 Active members


AKC Tricks

Description: AKC now has a Trick Title which may be earned at the end of this class. It's fun and it's really obedience and you and your dog can have fun learning the tricks. There is information on the AKC website. Look and see what the tricks are. They are relatively easy and your dog probably knows some of them already. For instance, one trick is going over a dog jump!! A six-week class and if you choose, the 7th week is the test and your dog can have a new Novice title (test fees and AKC fees separate). Come and enjoy learning just how smart your dog really is.

Prerequisites: A willing dog with some obedience skills like sit, stay, come, down, etc. And an open-minded handler with lots of dog's favorite treats in small bites.

AKC Rally: Intermediate, Advanced

Description:In this class we will go over the signs for Intermediate and Advanced AKC Rally and do some practice courses.

This is a six week class.

Prerequisites: Basic obedience skills: sit, stay, come, down, etc.

Cost: $85.00 Inactive members/non-members, $63.75 Active members


Therapy Dog Readiness Class

Description: Will practice skills that any therapy dog will need: heeling properly, good down/stays and sit/stays. Greeting people respectfully, not jumping or scratching with claws. Staying calm in the face of noises, unexpected actions by other people, being calm around wheelchairs, walkers, etc. A mock test will be offered on the last day.

This is a four week class.

Prerequisites: Dog must know the basic commands, (sit, stay, down, come, walk on a loose leash), and be dog and people friendly.

Cost: $56.00 Inactive members/non-members, $42.00 Active members


Utility Competition Obedience

Description: Instructor will go over the individual exercises, talk about the rules and ring do's and don'ts. This is a six week class with 1 hour lessons.

Prerequisites: Open to new utility handlers and experienced utility handlers alike.

Cost: $85.00 non-members, $63.75 members


Obedience Skills

Description: The class will include preparation for the CGC exam and some competition obedience and rally work. This class is for handlers who want to have a more reliable dog at home and for handlers who are interested in competition obedience and rally. This is a six week class. One week after the last class a CGC test will be offered.

Prerequisites: This class is for dogs who have completed Home Obedience I and Home Obedience II classes. Dogs should have an understanding of walking on a loose leash, stay commands, and recalls.

Cost: $75.00 non-members, $53.75 members. Additional, separate $10.00 fee for the CGC Test.


Novice Competition Obedience

Description: Intended for the dog and handler team who intend to compete in obedience classes at trials. Work will include basic commands and exercises for Novice classes. Exercises include on and off lead heeling, sit, down, stay, recall, stand for exam.

This is a six hour course which may be held over 4 weeks or six weeks. Check Calendar.

Prerequisites: Home Obedience II or equivalent. Dogs should be fine working around other dogs.

Cost: $85.00 non-members, $63.75 members


UKC Rally I Obedience

Description: The instructors will go over the new UKC signs and rules, starting at the beginning and going as far as possible during the 6 weeks. Explanations as well as practicing with your dogs will be part of the class agenda. This is a six week class.

Prerequisites: Dog should know sit, down, stay, and heeling on-leash.

Cost: $85.00 non-members, $63.75 members


UKC Rally Trial Prep

Description:UKC Rally Obedience for those who want to brush up in readiness for upcoming UKC Rally Obedience Trial or just review their skills. This is a three week class. Since each session is 2 1/2 hours long, it is equivalent to a 6 week class. Each session has 2 different Rally Courses. Includes handouts.

Prerequisites: Dogs should have had at least basic home obedience training. Having prior rally training would be helpful but not required.

Cost: $85.00 non-members, $63.75 members


Playtime Puppy

Description: Puppy socialization with some introduction to basic training for puppies. This is a six week class.

Prerequisites: For puppies up to 6 months.

Cost: $75.00 non-members, $56.25 members
