Introduction to APHS

Description: Human agility partners need to cue early and consistently to make their canine partners happy and fast. The Awesome Paws Handling System (APHS), developed by Linda Mecklenburg, is one of the major systems of agility handling. Linda has published a book and 3 CD sets reviewing her handling system. It is the system taught at Ann Braue's Canine training center in Wisconsin. More information is available on Linda Mecklenburg's awesome paws website. APHS uses 6 cues. The cues can be variably combined and balanced to optimize the performance of each agility team. This will be a 6 week course using short sequences of hoops, jumps and tunnels to develop consistent handling skills for the agility teams.

Please bring rewards such as tugs, toys, or balls that can be filled with treats. You will need to be able to toss the reward at times to get your dog comfortable with working away from you. For dogs that only work for food rewards, there are wonderful Velcro balls that can be filled with food and can be found on the Clean Run website.
